At Raincity Dance, a strong emphasis is placed on students’ ballet training as it provides a strong technical foundation for other styles of dance.
The Recreational Ballet program is a great option for those who prefer a ballet class that meets once a week and does not have an exam.

Ballet Technique 1
7+ years
Basic Ballet technique for students who do not have previous ballet experience. This class focuses on basic positions of the body, building co-ordination and control, transfers of weight, elevation and stamina, with use of both parallel and turn-out. Class work is non-syllabus and there are no exams. The class will prepare choreography for the end of the year recital.

Ballet technique for students who have previous ballet experience. This class focuses on classical positions of the body, increasing co-ordination and control, transfers of weight in turn-out, pirouettes, elevation and grand allegro. Level-Up Ballet

Level-Up Ballet is great for older students who are new to ballet or returning after time away. Dancers will build a strong technical foundation, focusing on alignment, line, control, and coordination in a supportive, age-appropriate setting. It’s also ideal for those with experience in other styles—such as jazz, acro, or contemporary—looking to refine their overall performance quality. Students progress at a comfortable pace and have the opportunity to move into more advanced levels when they’re ready. Class work is non-syllabus and there are no exams. The class will prepare choreography for the end of the year recital.

Introduction to ballet with open class work at barre and in centre. No prior dance experience is necessary. Focusing on posture and alignment, students will work on basic ballet vocabulary, basic positions of the body, building co-ordination and control, transfers of weight, medium allegro, basic ballet combinations in an adult style environment. No recital choreography.

Building on the steps learned in Beginner Ballet with open class work at barre and in centre. This class focuses on classical positions of the body, increasing co-ordination and control, pirouettes, adage, medium and grand allegro. Class includes barre, centre work, and cool down. Students will work on more complex combinations in an adult style environment. No recital choreography.

Ballet Repertoire
14+ years - Adult
Study two variations selected from classical ballets. A barre warm up, and preparatory exercises for the variations. There is the option of presenting the work for an RAD exam. Flat shoes or en pointe. No recital choreography.

Ballet - Pointe
Our Pointe classes are designed for dancers with a strong foundation in classical ballet who are ready to take the next step in their training. Students will focus on building strength, alignment, and technique while learning the fundamentals of dancing en pointe. Emphasis is placed on safety, proper preparation, and individual progression to ensure each dancer develops confidence and artistry in their pointe work.
Teacher approval is required before beginning pointe.

Conditioning, massage techniques, and preparatory exercises building towards ballet on pointe or for those returning to pointe work. Useful for dancers of all levels and genres to keep the body in good dancing shape. Strong focus on core, legs and feet. No recital choreography.

Beginner Pointe class for ballet. Dancers may progress from ballet flats to pointe shoes based on their readiness. Introduction to pointe work with focus on safe practice. Non-syllabus and no exams. No recital choreography.

AcroDance
"Acro" seamlessly merges classical dance and acrobatic precision. It’s characterized by unique choreography that combines music, emotional expression, graceful lines, and acrobatic movements within the dance context.
Acro is a fun but demanding style requiring dancers to train in both dance and acrobatics. Techniques encompassing balancing, limbering, tumbling, and partnering, all centred on flexibility, contortion, and strength.
*Due to the physicality of the acrobatic skills in Acro, experience is a more important part in selecting a level than age. Please reach out to administration if you have questions about placement.

Ages 7+ or Younger Beginners
Learn the fundamentals of acrobatic tricks following the Acrobatic Arts curriculum. Dancers will work on flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling skills. This class will prepare choreography for the year-end recital.

9+ years or Older Beginners
Acrobatic Arts techniques combined with dance and performed to music. Building on skills learned in Arco Tech 1 emphasizing increased control and coordination. The class will prepare choreography for the end of the year recital.

AcroDance Technique 3
11+ years with Experience
Learning more advanced techniques. Chest stands, bridge, walkovers, cartwheels, round-offs, limbering, lifts and balances. The class will prepare choreography for the end of the year recital.

A minimum of 3 years of AcroDance or gymnastics training
and Studio approval.

Technique progressing from previous years, introducing aerials. Advanced choreography. The class will prepare choreography for the end of the year recital.

Contemporary
Contemporary classes combine elements from a wide variety of dance with changes in rhythm, speed, and direction. Contemporary uses the controlled legwork of ballet, a focus on the torso, floor work, and a quest for emotive expression.
To prepare for Contemporary younger dancers should focus on ballet and jazz training.

Jazz classes focus on technique, flexibility, musicality and performance. A strong ballet foundation is essential for achieving correct jazz technique. By combining jazz in addition to ballet training, our students become more versatile, well rounded dancers while opening the doors to the popular lyrical and contemporary dance styles.

Modern dance is a dynamic and expressive form of movement that emphasizes creativity, exploration, and individuality, opposing traditional ballet techniques. It incorporates elements of various dance styles, movement exploration techniques, and exploration of space. Modern dance often delves into themes of emotion, identity, and social commentary through innovative choreography.
To prepare for Modern younger dancers should focus on ballet and jazz training.

Tap develops musicality and creative expression. Many different styles are introduced including Classical, Broadway and Rhythm Tap. Exercises focus on coordination, speed of movement, and developing style and sound.
